A team from Datatrend ventured to Mobile World Congress (#MWC15) this week to participate in the largest global gathering (~90,000 attendees) of mobile and telecommunications stakeholders. Datatrend offers consulting and integration solutions for independent software vendors (ISVs) serving the telco market to deliver friction-free in-network implementations, gaining speed to market, quick time to value and global support for mobile carriers and other telco operators leveraging ISV solutions.
Our CTO, Phil Turner, took a few minutes from the hubbub to send the following recap of early activities from his smartphone:
!Hola¡ from Barçelona.
The communications industry is clearly growing in value and innovation. Some vendors didn’t even wait for day 1 of Mobile World Congress before announcing a rash of new mobile devices, notably the Samsung S6, but also a significant range of new wearable devices.
This event certainly has great representation from across the mobile industry, from apps and devices to OSS/BSS platforms, and wireless antennas to Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), everywhere you turn. It’s an exciting mix of technology and business.
One very cool tech sighting is a company, Liquipel, that has a simple process for waterproofing almost anything… from Electronic circuit boards (like inside your phone) to materials as fine as paper tissue. You can’t see or feel a difference, but water beads right off. Would be nice for shoes as well as cell phones. The applications are limitless, and some are in production already.
Day 1 @ MWC was a meetingfest, which will continue well into the night moving to Barcelona’s wonderful evening venues.
